Piazzolla: Aconcagua — Concerto for Bandoneon

As spring approaches, shake off winter doldrums with the passionate perspectives only Latin and Spanish music can provide. From the child prodigy Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga, we hear the vivid harmonic expressions of the 19-year-old “Spanish Mozart.” While Aaron Copland explores the Latin American zeitgeist through his North American perspective, Astor Piazzolla thrills via a uniquely Argentine tango vibe.

Finzi: A Severn Rhapsody
Boyle: Elegy
Linda Atherton, cello
Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 3, Op. 56
in a minor “Scottish”
The Celtic connection is evident in this delightful evening of music inspired by the people, cultures and landscapes of Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. Finzi rhapsodizes the Severn river valley, Boyle interprets a poem about the mythical harp of the Dagda (with BlueWater’s Linda Atherton on cello) and then Mendelssohn explores the wild romantic landscapes of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.
It’s the enduring spirit of the celts set to music.
